GBH: Interview and Culture Show

In February 2025, saxophonist Zishi Liu appeared on GBH’s Boston Public Radio with hosts Jim Braude and Margery Eagan. During the segment, Liu discussed his innovative fusion of jazz and traditional Chinese music, drawing inspiration from Western artists like John Coltrane and Kenny G. He also previewed his upcoming performance at the Regattabar in Cambridge, Massachusetts .​

The Regattabar concert, held on February 1, 2025, celebrated the Chinese New Year and featured a blend of jazz with traditional Chinese instruments. Liu led a diverse ensemble, including Hui Weng on guzheng, Alex Gao on vocals, Harold Charon on piano, Benedict Koh on bass, Zongmou Jiang on drums, and the GAIA Quartet on strings. The performance aimed to honor unity, good fortune, and the vibrant energy of the Lunar New Year

Zishi Liu, originally from China and now based in Boston, has been recognized as a refreshing presence in the local jazz scene. His work continues to bridge cultural divides, offering audiences a unique blend of Eastern and Western musical traditions.​
